ACHIEVEMENTS

Expeditionary Learning National Conference | Keynote Speaker

2016 Expeditionary Learning (EL) Conference was in Detroit, Michigan. I was one of the student keynote speakers, along with four other Harborside Academy High School students. I spoke as an alumni on service learning, expeditions, and how Harborside Academy has shaped my character and future. I was honored to meet Scott Hartl (President & CEO of EL), Ron Berger (Chief Academic Officer), Greg Farrell (founding president), and Charlotte Danielson (advises State Education Departments and National Ministries and Departments of Education).

Senior Project in Rwanda, Africa  | International Student Ambassador

In November 2014, my senior year of high school, I was invited to Rwanda, Africa to teach and share my experiences in Expeditionary Learning with the teachers and students. I went for two weeks and worked with the Rwamagana Lutheran School. This was a life changing experience that signified my path of education even more. I still keep in contact with some of the teachers and continue to share about our teaching.

Copper Point School in Tucson, Arizona | Voluntary Teacher

As a senior in high school, I was a student ambassador. I gave a tour to the future principal, Joseph McKnight who told me about an Expeditionary Learning School he was starting in Tucson, Arizona. I was thrilled considering my parents and I happened to be moving there after graduation. I stayed in contact with him and ended up being there from the time the school was under construction to now a school opened to 6th-12th grade. Every time I go to Tucson, I visit Copper Point and privileged to work with the students and staff as I'm a part of their cougar family. I help with lessons or teach impromptu lessons as needed with Spanish, Crew, English, and history.
